I'm Shocked & Disappointed!

Back in 2000, we were told that Repulicans had "rioted" when they banged on doors in a successful attempt to make sure that all valid presidential ballots were accurately and publicly counted, as required by Florida law. Liberals said this was a bad thing.

Now we have liberals attempting to interfere with the transport of military equipment to a combat zone during time of war. I find this situation and the response quite disturbing.

Police fired pepper spray as about 150 anti-war protesters tried to enter the Port of Olympia as part of ongoing demonstrations against the shipment of Army equipment to Iraq.

Protesters chanted "Out of Olympia, Out of Iraq" as they rocked a chain-link gate to the port late Monday, and at least three tried to use wooden boards to pry the gate open, The Olympian newspaper reported. A 50-ton piece of equipment was moved to reinforce the gate on the other side.

Police and sheriff's deputies clad in riot gear fired at least four rounds of pepper spray in an hour after asking the demonstrators several times to stop, authorities said. No one was arrested, but paramedics were dispatched to treat some activists.

By the definition promulgated by liberals, this was not a non-violent demonstration -- it was a riot. Furthermore, it was an act of sedition, if not outright treason.

But I would like to express my disappointment with the use of pepper spray against these "activists". It was an inappropriate choice.

The better choice would have been M-16s -- as befits any enemy of America.

You must be a closet liberal. Kent State '06 would not help your cause.

|| Posted by Dan, May 30, 2006 08:26 PM ||

It would not be Kent State.

There is a big difference between peaceful protests and interfering with the movement of troops and military equipment.

If you cannot see that...

I see it, and I think the protesters were irresponsible and deserved what they got. Protesting is fine, but trying to break into the gates is not. But your eagerness to see bloodshed is unhinged. I hope we'll never find out who's right on this point, but my prediction is that if the Bush administration kills protesters, the vast majority of Americans who oppose him and his optional war will be incensed, and demand action against him.

I'm sorry -- I simply believe in handling such things the way a Roosevelt, truman, or Wilson would have done in time of war -- you know, back when Democrats loved the United States and supported our troops and war effort.

Eagerness to see bloodshed? Not at all -- just a willingness to see seditious/treasonous activities get the sort of response they deserve.

"The better choice would have been M-16s -- as befits any enemy of America."

I would have advocated .44 Rem Mag JHP (Jacketed Hollow Point) fired from rifles chambered for that round, such as the Marlin Model 1894, or .308 Winchester FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) fired from M-1A's or M-14's (the weapon used by the honor guard for the Unknown Soldier), but I guess if M-16's are more plentiful, then I wholeheartedly agree that they should have been used, and with extreme prejudice.

Uhhhhhhh..........didnt they riot in 2000 to STOP the recount?

|| Posted by John Cobarruvias, May 31, 2006 03:02 PM ||

No, they didn't.

The recount began in public, as required by Florida law.

There was an attempt to move to a room with no windows to keep the press and public from observing -- in contravention of the statutory requirement that they be permitted to observe the recount -- after questions were raised by the press and public about the various and evolving standards being applied to count invalid ballots.

Oh, I didn't know it was you, John.

As the head of the local Democrats, I'm not at all surprised that you are so ill-informed.

After all, you drank so much kool-aid over such a long period that you urinate the stuff pure and uncorrupted.

|| Posted by Rhymes With Right, May 31, 2006 03:34 PM ||

Sorry. That was shiner, not kool-aid.

I guess i shouldn't be surprised by the lack of a substantive comment from you, John, once your initial innaccurate comment was knocked down with some facts.

And I'm curious about something. Does your comment indicate that you are a member of the Kennedy wing of the Dems rather than the Clinton wing -- drunk rather than power-hungry? And if so, do you issue personal floatation devices to your female passengers?
