Fred Thompson Arrives In Houston

HolaFred.JPG

Running a few minutes behind schedule, Senator Fred Thompson took some time to visit with a crowd of supporters upon his arrival in Houston this morning. Upon arrival he found a couple of hundred supporters to see and hear what the unofficial candidate for the GOP nomination had to say. I got a chance to shake hands with the Senator and even got more than just a wink and a nod when I urged him to "Make history in Houston" -- he grinned and said "I can come back, can't I?"

FredThompsonHat.JPG

Senator Thompson had a few words for the waiting crowd -- I picked up right after the obligatory amusing anecdote about the state of Texas.

Overall, I was favorably impressed with how he handled the crowd, the press, and the Ron PauLunatic who attempted to disrupt the event.

Now I realize that I have endorsed a different candidate for the nomination, and I still support that candidate. I may, however, be open to reconsidering that support once Fred Thompson actually enters the race.

UPDATE: It seems that the Ron PauLunatic has become something of a story -- so how about if I tell you what happened from my perspective STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO HER (if you see a red Hawaiian shirt in any picture or video, that is me).

1) She was permitted to ask her first question -- and Fred Thompson tried to answer it. He had to ask her to stop talking in order to be able to do so. Once he was done, staff attempted to ask her to leave. She whined about being touched, and ignored their attempts to remove her from an event in a private terminal booked by the campaign (which was therefore a private venue, not a public forum).

2) At least twice more that I recall, the staff attempted to speak to her. She rebuffed them each time.

3) Finally, as she began raving again, police (presumably off-duty cops hired by the organizers to provide security) stepped in so as to prevent her from disrupting the Senator's departure. Again, this is consistent with this being an event in a non-public venue.

No you can not come back! Resign from office now you sham!

|| Posted by Alimoe The General of Truth, July 25, 2007 11:14 PM ||

Looks like I've had an idiot come for a visit.

Guess I'll have to update the post.

|| Posted by Rhymes With Right, July 25, 2007 11:46 PM ||

Uhhh, Mr. "General of Truth"?

Which office is Thompson supposed to resign? Up until recently, he was a working actor. He quit that to work on a potential campaign.

Any help you can give from your Command Basement of Truth would be greatly appreciated.

"No you can not come back! Resign from office now you sham!"

Let me guess, you ate lead paint as a kid?

|| Posted by W Zip, July 26, 2007 07:32 AM ||

He should resign from the pursuit of public office. I am a very independent conservative who believes we focus on issues at home. US foreign Aid should consist of four things, Food, Shelter, Medical supplies and in extreme cases Protection. The money we gave to Saudi Arabia last year alone could have paid for 7,500 kids to attend college. My Grandpa is dying because Medicare cut bottle oxygen from medical supplies they cover. I believe in the US Military and the defense of our borders.

If that is inconsistent with real issue that would make a difference, then yes I did eat paint. Don't be so quick to judge me, you don't know me. The only reason I posted on Houston911.org was I saw it on CNN. I am a young man that hates the fact my and older generations act because they are told to. Where did free will, free thinking and the desire to pursue happiness go in our country? Who's to blame, Bush? Clinton? Hip Hop? Big Business? Media? NONE OF THEM. The individual has the ability to choose and the unwillingness to logically and prospectively weigh options is killing America.

Gee -- even less rational than last night!

|| Posted by Rhymes With Right, July 26, 2007 12:15 PM ||

I'm afraid this is another Ron Paul kook. And yes, there is some led paint involved here with this invididual and the rest of the gang.

Some folks just can't handle politics in a civil manner- left and right.

"No you can not come back! Resign from office now you sham!"

"He should resign from the pursuit of public office"

Admit it, you thought he was already in an elected office you half wit.

Time to wipe the cheeto dust off your keyboard and move out of mom's basement..

Haha, I don't agree with any of our candidates. There is no reasoning with people who cant see past the confines of the box they are trapped in. Look up Alimoe Developing, US Home Watchers, The U House, Equest Radio and Alimoe Urban. My companies, some patented and all built from scratch. But that doesn't mean anything to you does it? I bet if I said I was Mormon you would hate me because of my religion too.

|| Posted by Jerry R. Reynolds, July 26, 2007 12:35 PM ||

Mr. Reynolds, what was your point again? I have lost track.

|| Posted by Pat, July 26, 2007 01:11 PM ||

The whole point is we need to elect people that are willing to care of the people of The United States of America, period. Ron Paul is not the answer, Thompson, Clinton, Obama, Guliontnie, McCain, Edwards are not the answer. We need leaders who reflect JFK, Regan and Jefferson in specific areas respectively, that stand for something. Individuals from both parties do good and a lot bad. I hate people like Sean Hannity who think his party does no wrong, professes to be REPUBLICAN THROUGH AND THROUGH, yet accepts a job with ABC Radio Network (a noted member of the LIBERAL MEDIA AGENDA). People like Senator Kennedy and Harry Reid who complain without providing realistic viable solutions.

This post is all aggregated from my frustration at the way event coordinators handled "a" situation. Mr./Mrs. Rhymes with Right may in fact be correct by saying she was asked to leave, however my whole question is why? Until that point all she did was ask a question. She is not very good at her job but like all other reporters she wanted an answer to her question. Could she have handled herself better on her way out the door, of course. She did nothing to server, rather she damaged her purpose and platform by furthering the image her group claims they want to eliminate. But to remove someone in that fashion when it appears the session was at conclusion for simply trying to their job (as poor as it was), to me just sends a bad message.

People have become quick to label me as an idiot predicated on a conversation between two people taking place in separate arenas. That’s fine. Reality is I am a successful 27 year old business man who hates mediocrity. I have been posting for years on other peoples blogs and just now decided to create my own. Read it and tell me I am not intelligent with and have no grasp, I am simply tired of people who don't follow through.

Am I wrong to think our leaders should not be giving OUR tax dollars to other countries when we have great need for those funds? Rather we should be investing those dollars into k-12, technical and university education, health care through a stable and better managed Medicare system, money that would bolster our social security system, return values to government offices, stimulate our economy and provide means whereby we can advance as a people in a NON-superficial way, restructure programs that would decrease well-fare claims without disregarding real needs and want a government that helps its people stand on their own two feet and chase their dreams. Do I have executable ways to do those things, yes so keep reading my blog. I am not a republican but I am very conservative.
This is the path for strong America, not our current path. Am I wrong?

|| Posted by Jerry R. Reynolds, July 26, 2007 03:39 PM ||

Hey, Jerry, I'm more than willing to see our foreign aid budget slashed -- but still think you are an idiot based upon your writing here.

|| Posted by Rhymes With Right, July 26, 2007 04:38 PM ||

And that is fine. I will not attend this blog any longer.

|| Posted by Jerry R. Reynolds, July 26, 2007 04:56 PM ||

actually think Fred blew a golden opportunity with this incident.

As soon as the police started to escort her out of the room, Fred should have spoken up loud enough for all to hear:

Hold on there! What in the hell are you doing, officers? This young person is an American citizen and our Bill of Rights protects her right to speak in publicly-accessible places such as this. Let her go this instance!

Now then, please go on, young lady. You were in the process of explaining to the world how the US Government slaughtered thousands of innocent civilians in New York City.

The floor is yours. The cameras are rolling. I, however, have a plane to catch. Now, if you'll excuse me.

|| Posted by Bruce, July 26, 2007 10:13 PM ||

The only problem, Bruce, is that she was already making a move to disrupt the Senator's departure from the terminal. Also, given this was a private venue, the company that runs the private terminal and operates its business from that location did not want her there one second longer.

She had all sorts of First Amendment rights, of course -- outside of the building, along the street, where she was interviewed by the press.
