I teach social studies. As a result, I often find myself teaching about economic issues, including things like personal finances. I find a lot of ignorance among my students on the topic. And I don’t just mean the macro-economic issues – there really is a dearth of knowledge on personal finance issues like loans, credit cards, and bankruptcy.
But to be honest, I guess I was the same way when I was young. I remember my first credit card. I ran that sucker up to the whole $500 limit, not realizing I couldn’t carry the balance long term. I was fortunate to be able to turn to my folks for help. I learned some lessons through that experience.
