Obama Administration Recognizes That Captured Terrorists Outside The US Have No Rights Under The Constitution

Once again vindicating the Bush Administration and its policies on detained terrorists.

Detainees being held at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan cannot use US courts to challenge their detention, the US says.

The justice department ruled that some 600 so-called enemy combatants at Bagram have no constitutional rights.

Most have been arrested in Afghanistan on suspicion of waging a terrorist war against the US.

The ruling has disappointed human rights lawyers who had hoped the Obama administration would take a different line to that of George W Bush.

Prof Barbara Olshansky, the lead counsel in a legal challenge on behalf of four Bagram detainees, told the BBC the justice department’s decision not to reform the rules was both surprising and “enormously disappointing”.

Now where are the protests in the streets? Where are the outraged celebrities?

And where are the apologies to George W. Bush, whose policy is being maintained by the Obama regime after Obama condemned it during the campaign.

Comments on Obama Administration Recognizes That Captured Terrorists Outside The US Have No Rights Under The Constitution

This is new news, yet you and the Right are already coming down on folks for not protesting. That's both premature and stupid.

That said, there are already protests, such as the "human rights lawyers" and Prof Barbara Olshansky, contained in the quote you chose, so what really is your point, Rhymes?

Speaking for myself, if this as described is actually Obama's policy, I disagree with it. I firmly believe in the Writ of Habeas Corpus. Without it, abuse by the Government could become unacceptable and outrageous to those who value the Rule of Law.

I understand that many on the Right also believe in the Writ, when it suits their ends, and not, when that suits their ends. The proof is in the behavior of the Bushies, especially Professor John Yoo and former AG Roberto Gonzales, for which the "means" don't count, only the ends. That's unacceptable, in my view.

Come on, Perry. You guys just need a bit of duct tape and a marker to get those old "Stop Bush's War On The Constitution" sign to read "Stop Obama's War On The Constitution".

And the celebrities? They could have flown all those greenhouse gas emitting private jets to Washington to descend on the White House now that their close buddy Obama is living there. They bought and paid for the man -- they certainly have access.

And as for letters to the editor and columns, running the "Find & Replace" feature of MS Word would let you update those old pieces in a matter of minutes. Bush out, Obama in, with just a few keystrokes!

So where is your outrage? Where are your protests? We are waiting to see if you folks have been sincere these last eight years.

I expressed my objection it is indeed Obama's policy, didn't I Rhymes?

The fact that you ignored it makes me question your motivation, as you seem stuck on talking to yourself rather than on having a productive discussion and exchange of ideas.

I noticed the same quality in your responses on the "Something to Worry About" thread on DL.

I don't know whether to characterize you as a right wing ideologue or an absolutist. I consider myself a pragmatist, morally in the Quaker persuasion.

How do you characterize yourself, Rhymes?

Oh come on, Perry -- where is your passion? Why can't you leftists muster the sort of outrage we've heard for eight years? After all, aren't you angry that you have been betrayed by YOUR MAN, the one who promised to undo Bush policies before adopting them?

And as for what I consider myself, I am a patriot in the Jeffersonian tradition.
