Now I'll be glad to tell you that I don't like the sign put up by Patrick Lanzo outside his Georgia Peach Oyster Bar in Paulding County, Georgia. It really isn't appropriate, and serves only to give the race hustlers and race-baiters on the Left one more piece of ammunition to attack those who have legitimate opposition to the risky health care scheme being proposed by President Obama and the Democrats. There are dozens of other ways he could have made the same point without crossing the moral line that he crossed by using a particular word.

And yes, the word obscured is the particularly vile racial slur that is so incredibly popular in rap music and the routines of successful black comics.
But you know, I wouldn't write about this incident if it were just about an offensive sign a half a continent away -- one that I am certain that over 95% of Americans look at and agree is not acceptable. Why bother arguing what is more or less unanimously agreed upon.
No, I want to look at this comment towards the end of the article.
The West Metro NAACP issued this statement: This latest ploy for attention by Mr. Lanzo is not surprising. What is of concern however, is the total lack of leadership and action from the elected officials of Paulding County, who repeatedly have allowed this type of toxic public display."
Excuse me? What exactly do you want the elected officials of Paulding County to do? Seize the sign? Arrest the sign owner? Suppress what is, however inelegantly expressed, a legitimate commentary on a key political issue of the day? After all, your criticism is that such speech is even allowed in the county -- which is, after all, a part of the United States and as such is covered by the First Amendment to the Constitution. Like it or not, the elected officials of Paulding County, the state of Georgia, and the United States have no authority under our system of government to silence Mr. Lanzo or require him to adhere to a list of words deemed acceptable by his political opponents.
So while I condemn Mr. Lanzo for his use of the term "nigger rig" in his sign, I also condemn the West Metro NAACP for its effort to stifle political speech by trying to "African-American rig" political correctness into the First Amendment.
