At least as a starting point for negotiation.
Well, that sounds reasonable -- as long as we start with THESE pre-1967 Borders.

Or at a minimum, there is always this possibility.

You know, if we really want to talk about "ancestral homelands", "right of return" and such things, it seems to me that we ought to consider the historical extent of Israel as a starting point -- and perhaps look at the possibility of telling the descendants of the bands of conquering Mohammedans with tenure in the region only since the seventh century that they need to make room for the area's rightful owners.

Exactly. Why wasn't this point made earlier? You start talking about the "proper" demographics of a time long past, and any given decade you'll get a different map. The fact is that after WWII the UN booted the Arabs from the land they'd been in for generations to make a Jewish homeland, in part in response to a zionist movement that pre-dates WWII. Get over it already.
The "right of return" for the Palestinians is a fantasy concept. I'm just worried about Obama's 2013 inaugural speech when he champions the right of return for the homeland of the people in North America circa 1493, if you know what I mean.
No wait, we've effectively eliminated that culture, opening ceremonies to the Winter Olympics in Canada notwithstanding.
And did you know that B. Hussein Obama is Irish now? McObama? MAN, that guy worships Kennedy!

BTW, Israel is perfectly capable of defending herself (by swiftly winning!) with the IDF. Let's keep swapping info and doing talk-talk.
Cheers.
