Here’s how the New York Mayor and ultimate nanny-stater responded to the suggestion that the principal and/or teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School should have been armed.

Bloomberg responded by saying, “There are dumb statements and then there are stupid statements… I don’t know what the gun would have done.”

Well, Michael, the gun could have done nothing, given that it was an inanimate object (for the record, the same was true of the guns used by the murderous madman – it was the man and not the object that killed last Friday). But in the hands of a teacher or administrator intent upon protecting the children of that school, a gun could and very likely would have protected those children from the slaughter that ensued in the absence of a gun in the hand of a law-abiding administrator.

And for those who argue that it was better that the educators not be armed and instead wait for law enforcement personnel to arrive, consider that it took 20 minutes for cops to arrive at the school. In the words of Instapundit, “When seconds count, the police are only minutes a third of an hour away.”
