Want Proof That The Firing Of Phil Robertson Was Religous Discriminaion?

I've had some people take issue with my characterization of the actions of A&E with regard to Phil Robertson as religious discrimination. This, however, is prima facie evidence that the network fired Robertson because of his religion.

Phil Robertson disrespected gay employees at A&E ... and THAT'S why he was sacked from "Duck Dynasty" ... sources connected with the network tell TMZ.

We're told A&E CEO Nancy Dubuc felt she could not in good conscience ask gay employees to kill themselves for a show when he disrespected them by calling them sinners.

Our sources say ... gay employees involved in the production -- and there are a number of them -- were outraged by Phil's comments to GQ and wanted Dubuc to give him the ax.

We're told Dubuc felt this way ... If Phil had made similar comments about African Americans or Jews ... there would have been a public outcry for his head. She felt it was just plain wrong not to have the same sense of indignation when the comments were directed at gays.

So Phil Robertson expressed a belief that is clearly taught in Scripture and was fired for it? Can you explain to me how that is NOT religious discrimination -- especially since his word were a more or less direct paraphrase of a passage from First Corinthians?

Let's compare them. Saint Paul said the following:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (English Standard Version) Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Phil Robertson put it this way:

“Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

So you see, it was not Phil Richardson calling those who engage in homosexual acts sinners -- it was the Holy Bible! So when the CEO of the network decides to fire him "for calling [gay employees] sinners", she is making a decision based precisely upon his expression of his religious beliefs. And as for the claim that is is no different than racist or anti-Semitic speech, consider that engaging in gay sex is an action (just like every other item on that list) - adultery, dishonest, engaging in slanderous speech - while being black or being Jewish is not.

Which takes us back to the 1964 Civil Rights Act, as I noted the other evening:

It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer - to fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individual’s race, color, religion, sex, or national origin;

If firing somebody for having quoted the Bible in an interview doesn't qualify as discharging them because of their religion, I don't see how that term can be deemed to have any meaning. And if it is legal do so, then is it not incumbent upon an employer -- or the government - to provide Christians with a list of those scriptural passages that can get an employee fired?

By the way -- if A&E truly has a workplace that values diversity, shouldn't the proper response of A&E CEO Nancy Dubuc have been to require every complaining employee to take a mandatory sensitivity training so that they would properly respect the beliefs of their Christian co-worker? After all, they are being highly intolerant of the religious beliefs of members of the company's diverse workforce.

But then again, I suppose it is a matter of priorities and market share. Christians make up less than 5% of the American public, while homosexuals are well over 60% -- or something like that.
