Local Lefty Bloggers Yuk It Up Over Accident That Paralyzed Texas Gubernatorial Candidate

Wendy Davis supporters have such class. Take this post by Death Threat Democrat John Cobarruvias over at Bay Area Houston and the comment by Perry Dorrell of Brains and Eggs, who was a delegate to the Texas Democrat Convention a few weeks back.

Notice -- they are intentionally making light of this incident.

On the steamy afternoon of July 14, 1984, Abbott took a break from studying for the bar exam with his friend Fred Frost, who had also graduated from Vanderbilt. They decided to go for a jog through River Oaks, one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the state. The crape myrtles were in bloom, and majestic live oaks and Southern magnolias filled the lawns of the stately homes. Along one section of Inwood Drive, the trees were so thick they formed a canopy over the street, providing a spot of shade to beat back the relenting heat. Only five minutes or so into their run, as Abbott and Frost approached the intersection of Inwood and Chilton Road, Abbott heard what he describes as a “loud explosion, like a bomb going off.” He had been running a few yards ahead of Frost, and the next thing he knew, he was down on the ground, having been struck by an oak tree that had snapped near its base. “It hit me in the back and knocked me down,” Abbott says. “It broke bones in my vertebrae, which pierced my spinal cord. I had fractured ribs, which poked into some of my organs. The pain was incomprehensible.” A few feet away, the tree had also crushed a parked Cadillac.

Frost dashed off to get help. Abbott lay on his back, unable to move. As he waited, he tried his best to cope with the pain. A single thought ran through his head: “This is what paralysis is like.” He felt as if rigor mortis had already set in. He had the sensation that his legs were frozen in the air, as if they were still in the runner’s position, so he reached out to try to push them down, only to realize they were flat on the ground. He was convinced that his career as a lawyer was over.

Greg Abbott's career as a lawyer was not over. Paralyzed from the waist down, Abbott went on to a career as a successful lawyer before being elected as a trial court judge. he was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court three years later, a position which he held for five years before resigning to run for Attorney General of the state of Texas, a position he has held for over a decade. If the polls are correct, Abbott will crush Wendy Davis in November and become the next governor of Texas.

I'd probably ignore this were it not for two things. First, it has long been the modus operandi of Wendy Davis supporters to mock Abbott's paralysis. But second, this particular instance involves Democrats propagating a lie about Abbott -- under Texas law, an award like that received by Abbott following his accident is still permitted because it was 100% actual damages with no punitive damages sought or awarded.

So what are these half-wits complaining about? Simply put, they object to Abbott doing his job and seeking to uphold the laws of the state of Texas. The people of this state overwhelmingly voted for malpractice reform over a decade ago, and Abbott filed a brief about the constitutionality of what the voters decided. He didn't intervene on the merits of the suit -- simply in defense of the law itself. In other words, he did what the chief lawyer for the state of Texas is supposed to do.

But hey -- why would Democrats care about the facts or the law when they can mock a guy in a wheelchair? Personally, I'm just surprised that the post didn't contain a threat to drag him behind a pick up truck like the one he once made against another Republican he disagreed with.

One other issue issue is that video games can be serious naturally with the most important focus on mastering rather than entertainment. Although, it comes with an entertainment part to keep your children engaged, each one game is frequently designed to work on a specific experience or programs, such as instructional math or scientific discipline. Thanks for your article.
