The More I Hear From Carly

The more seriously I find myself taking her as a candidate.

Consider her willingness to stake out a strong position on foreign policy, and to take on Barack Obama when she does so.

I think once again President Obama has continued to give the American people a false choice, which is implied in your question. His false choice is, ĎIf you donít agree with what Iím doing or not doing there is no option but to go to war.Ē I think with ISIS there is an option we havenít availed ourselves of. Likewise, I think thatís true with IranÖ I would make two calls day one in the Oval Office. There first is tow Bibi Netanyahu. The second would be to the Supreme leader of Iran. And while he might not take my phone call, he would get the message. And the message would until and unless you are prepared to open every nuclear facility, every uranium enrichment facility, to full unfettered, anytime, anywhere inspections, we will exact the most punishing financial sanctions we can.

Fiorina is correct here. Barack Obama wants to make Americans believe in a false dichotomy -- his way or war. Like Firoina, I don't see that as a legitimate view of the world -- unless one wishes to presume that Obama is giving away the store to our enemies in a frantic effort to avoid warfare that is otherwise inevitable. Apparently Obama believes that maintaining the status quo -- his policies -- is tantamount to putting America on the road to war. In that case, Obama is a failure (not an unreasonable point of view in any event) and is selling out America's interests in order to avoid (or at least delay) the consequences of his own ineptitude.

Fiorina presents the non-war alternative -- shoring up relations with our allies and standing firm against those whose success is inimical to America interests. While I'm sure that those views are similar to most of the GOP field, Carly Fiorina has been stronger in her presentation of that position. I urge my fellow Republicans to take another look -- she may not be the ideal nominee, but she certainly belongs higher in the polls than she is right now.
